Hammond connected on a 3 with 40 seconds left and later, after a technical foul on Sun Devils coach Bobby Hurley with four seconds remaining, converted two free throws and a layup that gave Santa Clara a 55-38 halftime lead.
Santa Clara’s largest cushion was 60-41 early in the second half, and the Broncos maintained a 15-point edge with about 15 minutes remaining before going nearly seven minutes without a point.
Arizona State stormed back with a 14-0 run until Oboye stopped the drought with a 3-pointer to knot the game at 66-all with 8:16 to go.
Diop then delivered a momentum-changing sequence, scoring on a dunk after converting two free throws off a Broncos turnover to put ASU ahead for good, and the Sun Devils held the lead the rest of the way for an 82-79 victory.
