Dame Judi Dench, the legendary actress, recently achieved a lifelong dream by sharing the stage with Sir Mick Jagger, the iconic Rolling Stones frontman. This unexpected collaboration occurred during a live show at the Sondheim Theatre, where Dame Judi, aged 91, appeared alongside broadcaster Gyles Brandreth. The event, titled 'What’s The Play? What’s The Part?', was a surprise for Dame Judi, who was wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with 'Rock & Roll'.
Brandreth, who arranged for Sir Mick's surprise appearance, described the moment as a 'total surprise' for Dame Judi. The 82-year-old Jagger delivered a heartfelt speech, reflecting on Dame Judi's illustrious career, which has spanned collaborations with renowned actors such as Laurence Olivier, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Clint Eastwood. Dame Judi, in turn, reciprocated the compliment by reciting a 17th-century love poem, 'The Parting' by Michael Drayton.
This unique event marked a special moment in the theatre world, as Dame Judi and Brandreth were joined by special guests Sir Ian McKellen and Sigourney Weaver for their two-person show, 'I Remember It Well – The Christmas Edition', which took place at the Sondheim Theatre in December 2024. The surprise appearance of Sir Mick Jagger not only fulfilled Dame Judi's dream but also left a lasting impression on the audience, who responded with an unparalleled enthusiasm that Brandreth described as unlike anything he had witnessed in his 60 years in the theatre.
