Father-Son Rock Band Power Take Off: From Rural Roots to a 12-State Tour (2026)

The Father-Son Duo: How a Rural Upbringing and Musical Heritage Influenced a Madison Rock Band

Ayden Theis, born with a drumstick in his hand, inherited his passion for music from his father, Scott Theis. This father-son duo's story is a testament to the power of family bonds and the influence of rural upbringing on artistic expression.

Ayden's musical journey began early, banging on pots and pans as a toddler, and soon after, he was behind a drum set, guided by his parents. Fast forward to age 18, and Ayden is embarking on a 12-state tour with the Madison-area rock band Power Take Off, led by his father, Scott.

Ayden's admiration for his father is evident: "He’s my biggest inspiration, definitely. I want to be just like him, like how he was in his early 20s, just having a good time and playing rock and roll."

Scott's musical career spanned 35 years, but family life took precedence when Ayden was born. He made up for lost time by introducing his son to his musical influences. The pandemic, however, presented a unique challenge and opportunity. With Ayden entering high school, Scott wanted to ensure his son didn't miss out on the crucial experiences of jamming with other musicians.

They transformed their family basement into a studio, writing songs together. Scott took on the role of lead singer and songwriter, while Ayden, the drummer, added his unique flair. Their songs, influenced by Scott's childhood on Theis Brothers Farm, reflect a deep appreciation for rural life.

Despite not having to work the harvests like his father, Ayden still experienced the farm life, riding tractors and developing an appreciation for agriculture. One of their early songs, "Keep Truckin'", was dedicated to farmers and raised funds for Wisconsin 4-H.

Power Take Off's success has led to a barn-storming tour across the country, with their next adventure taking them through Florida, Texas, Arizona, and Utah, before returning to Wisconsin for a fundraiser for the Madison Area Music Association in March 2026.

Scott's second career in music has brought him a new appreciation for the road life and spending time with his son. He reflects, "I have enjoyed every moment. I know my days are limited, but Aiden’s got such a career in front of him. For right now, we’re just enjoying being with each other, really."

This father-son duo's story highlights the beauty of intergenerational connections and the profound impact of rural roots on artistic expression, leaving a lasting impression on both the band and its audience.
