Mahindra's EV & SUV Focus: No CNG Plans for Premium Ride (2025)

Mahindra's Bold Move: Focusing on SUVs and Electric Vehicles

The Future of Mahindra's Automotive Strategy

Mahindra & Mahindra, a leading Indian automotive giant, has revealed its plans to stay true to its brand identity by concentrating on premium and unique vehicles. This strategy, according to a top executive, aims to solidify their position in the domestic passenger vehicle market.

But here's where it gets controversial... While many automakers are exploring alternative fuels like CNG, Mahindra is taking a different path. They want to stick to their guns with internal combustion engines (ICE) and electric vehicles, a decision that might raise some eyebrows in the industry.

"Our focus remains on ICE and electric vehicles, and we're seeing good growth in these areas," said R Velusamy, President of Mahindra's Automotive Business. "Our customers seek something different; they don't want to blend into the crowd."

And this is the part most people miss... Mahindra isn't just about SUVs. They're also eyeing the electric vehicle (EV) market, with plans to sell around 7,000 EV units by the end of this fiscal year. By 2028, they aim for EVs to make up a significant 25% of their overall sales.

Mahindra has already made impressive strides in the EV market, selling over 30,000 EVs in the last seven months and generating revenue of around Rs 8,000 crore.

So, what's next for Mahindra? They're doubling down on their SUV segments, with multiple new models expected over the next four years. However, they're not planning to enter the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment anytime soon.

To maintain their competitive edge, Mahindra is focusing on operational efficiency and technological advancements. With the SUV market still growing, they plan to introduce more models before 2029.

As Mahindra navigates the evolving automotive landscape, their bold strategy raises intriguing questions. Are they making the right move by sticking to ICE and EVs? Will their focus on premium, differentiated products pay off? And how will they adapt to the rapidly changing preferences of consumers?
